ITINERARY
Day 1
Saturday: USA to Ireland
Depart USA for your overnight flight to Ireland. Dinner and cocktails are served on board.
Day 2
Sunday: Shannonside
Morning arrival at Shannon Airport, where after clearing Irish customs, we are met by our friendly Celtic Tours driver/guide. We travel the short distance to our hotel where we have some free time to rest. Today we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the majestic Cliffs of Moher. Dinner and overnight at your Shannon hotel.
Day 3
Monday: Shannon - Galway
Morning departure from our Shannon hotel. We travel via Ennis to Ardrahan in County Galway where we pause for morning tea/coffee and scones at Rathbaun Farm. Here we will see a farming family carry out everyday chores including sheep shearing and watch as the sheepdogs maneuver the flock. We continue on to Galway City. Afternoon sightseeing includes the Gaelic-speaking Connemara region. Dinner and overnight in Clifden, Galway.
Day 5
Wednesday: Donegal
Our tour today shows us some of the most scenic areas of Ireland - long, beautiful coastlines can be seen as we travel high up majestic mountains overlooking deep glens, surrounding quaint little villages and lakes. We travel through the picturesque town of Glenties by Glenveagh Castle and National Park. Dinner and overnight in Donegal.
Day 6
Thursday: Donegal - Armagh - Dublin
We depart Donegal and travel east via scenic Lough Er Dne to the historic and ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, Armagh. We visit St. Patrick's Trian for a journey of historical discovery, including the life and work of St. Patrick who came to Armagh in the 5th century. The Armagh Story exhibition dates from prehistoric times. The Trian also houses an exhibition of Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels." Departing Armagh we continue south to Dublin. Tonight we enjoy dinner and Irish entertainment at a renowned Dublin venue. Overnight in Dublin.
Day 7
Friday: Dublin
Morning visit to Kilmainham Jail, which covers some of the most heroic and tragic events in Irish history from 1780 to the 1920's. Winding our way through the streets of Dublin, we come to statue filled O'Connell Street and the Post Office, scene of the 1916 Easter Rising. Afternoon is free. Tonight optional visit to the theatre or enjoy some of the Dublin's famed singing pubs. Overnight in Dublin.
Day 8
Saturday: Dublin - Kilkenny - Waterford - Cork
Leaving Dublin, we travel south to Kilkenny City, where we stop for a visit to Kilkenny Castle, ancestral home of the Butler Clan. We continue on via Waterford where we visit the famed Waterford Crystal factory, then to Cork for dinner and overnight.
Day 9
Sunday: Cork - Cobh - Blarney - Killarney
Morning visit to Cobh Heritage Center, which documents the history of Irish emigration and the story of ill-fated superliners, the Lusitania and the Belfast-built Titanic. We continue on to Blarney, for an optional visit to Blarney Castle, where we have a chance to kiss the famed Blarney Stone, said to bestow eloquence on all who dare. Optional shopping for tweeds, linen, crystal, and china at nearby Blarney Woollen Mills. We travel over the scenic Cork and Kerry Mountains to Killarney for dinner and overnight. Tonight we have an optional visit to the famed "Laurels Singing Pub" in Killarney.
Day 10
Monday: Killarney - Shannon Airport
Morning departure from Killarney. We travel via the old world village of Adare to Shannon Airport for arrival approximately 9:30a.m. Ample time allowed for last minute duty-free shopping before boarding our flight home. We arrive home the same day.
